Ulland Brothers, Inc. Employee Assistance Program

The decision by Ulland Brothers, Inc. (and union locals) to implement an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is based on the following beliefs:

  1. The experience of personal and family problems is a normal part of living.
  2. Sometimes people experience problems they are unable to resolve themselves, and professional assistance would be a help. These problems, while complex, are treatable, especially if they are recognized at an early stage.
  3. Having personal and family problems can, and often does, affect job performance in a negative way.
  4. The interests of both employee and employer are served when professional assistance to resolve personal and family problems is made available. These services, provided in a constructive and confidential manner, can help employees maintain or regain optimal job performance.

  1. The purpose of the EAP is to make available professional assistance for dealing with personal and family problems that are affecting or may affect job performance.
  2. Job performance can be affected by problems experienced by the employee, the employee’s spouse, or employee’s dependent children.  Thus EAP services will be available to employees (after 30 days of employment), their spouses and dependent children.
  3. Problems that the EAP is intended to address include the following:
    • Marital relationship problems
    • Parenting and child-rearing problems
    • Individual mental health concerns, such as stress, depression, anxiety, and bereavement
    • Alcohol and chemical dependency
    • Financial problems
  4. Program services are available free of charge to the employee to assist with these problems including:
    • Assessment and short-term counseling.  Up to six sessions per client, per problem, per year with professionally qualified counselor/therapist.
    • Referral to other resources for on-going treatment, as indicated.
    • Information and referral to community support and educational resources.
  5. Should a referral to another resource be made, any fees shall be the obligation of the employee.  The EAP provider will review the possibility of health insurance coverage with the employee.
  6. Employees, spouses, or dependent children who are experiencing personal and family problems are encouraged to initiate contact with the EAP counselor. This is accomplished by contacting Sand Creek Group, Ltd. Employee Assistance Program. Phone Numbers: (651) 430-3383 or 1-888-243-5744.
  7. Supervisors, foreman, and union representatives who have identified an employee whose work performances are problematic are urged to refer the employee to the EAP.  This action does not replace usual disciplinary procedures.
  8. EAP records will be maintained by the counselor in a manner that protects the employee’s right to confidentiality and privacy.  No EAP records will be maintained on the company’s premises without written authorization by the employee.
  9. Ulland Brothers, Inc. will accommodate the treatment that may be recommended by the EAP personnel and other resources referred to by the EAP personnel.  Time off from work shall be allowed to accommodate this recommended treatment.
  10. EAP Policy does not replace or conflict with existing company personnel policy or union agreements.
